501 Yacht Club

Lake Ray Hubbard sunsets. Editorial waterfront.

501 Yacht Club sits on Lake Ray Hubbard in Rockwall, a 30-minute drive east of downtown Dallas. For couples who want water in their wedding photos but do not want to travel for a destination wedding, this is the strongest waterfront option in DFW. The outdoor ceremony space faces west — the sunset lands exactly where it needs to.

The Sunset Factor

Schedule a 5:30pm ceremony between April and October and your vows land inside the 30-minute window before the sun drops behind the lake. This is the single most important decision you make about your 501 wedding. An earlier ceremony wastes the light. A later one means you lose the water color. We'll help you reverse-engineer your timeline from sunset backward.

Indoor and Outdoor Options

The main ballroom holds 200 and has lake-facing windows, so weather-backup doesn't mean losing the water view. The outdoor pergola ceremony space is the flagship — covered but open-air, with the lake behind the couple. For receptions, the patio is where most of the memorable candid photography happens. The ballroom is workable but standard; the patio is where the venue actually lives.

Considerations

501 is a yacht club first, a wedding venue second. That means shared space on some weekends — a wedding block doesn't mean you have the whole facility. If you're sensitive to background activity in photos, ask the venue which weekends are fully private. It also means the base rental includes less than some dedicated wedding venues — confirm what's in your package.

501 Yacht Club FAQ

Does 501 Yacht Club have an in-house coordinator?+

Yes, 501 provides a day-of coordinator as part of most packages. They handle venue logistics — timeline confirmation, setup, vendor arrival. You may still want a separate planner for full wedding planning, but the venue coordinator handles day-of.

What if it rains on our ceremony?+

The indoor ballroom is the backup. It's large, lake-facing, and photographs well with available window light. The outdoor pergola has partial cover but isn't rated for severe weather. We build a weather-call plan with every 501 couple — if rain probability is >60% at the 24-hour mark, we recommend moving indoor.

Can we take the yacht out for photos?+

Some couples do arrange a brief lake-boat portrait session. This requires coordination with the yacht club separately — it is not included in standard venue rental. When it happens, the results are spectacular.
